Commercial News USA has chosen Optical Cable Corporation as the recipient of the Exporter of the Year in Information Technology/Telecommunications category. Commercial News USA is the official export promotion magazine of the US Department of Commerce which is published by Think Global, Inc.

Awards are given to one US Company in each of the 15 industry categories. Winners were chosen based on the total number of documented export deals completed in 2006, total percentage increase in sales in 2006 over 2005, exports as a percentage of total sales, the company's commitment to exporting, the company's commitment to customer service, and the company's innovation and originality in marketing products or services. To be eligible for the award, the company must currently be exporting from the United States.

Optical Cable Corporation is a manufacturer of fiber optic cables for the enterprise market and the premiere manufacturer of ground tactical fiber optic cable for the US Military. The company reported a 4 percent increase in 2005 in total export sales over 2006. Exports currently represent 28 of the company's total sales.
